On 16th February 2023, Portuguese Government approved a very significant package of measures for the housing sector.

After many months of rumors in such matters, Portuguese Government has finally decided to put an end to the Golden Visa Program, considering this regime as exceptional compared to the rest of immigration regime, and considering that the program has met its ultimate purpose, to bring foreign investment to the country.

However, government introduced a novelty to the news, in relation to the Golden Visas already granted. The Portuguese government considers that only may be renewed those which properties are destined for the permanent housing of either the investors themselves or their descendants, alongside with the cases where the property is subject to long term leases.

These measures will be subjected to public discussion until 16 March 2023, therefore, we cannot see them as definitive yet.
