Lawyers and solicitors can now submit online applications for Portuguese nationality.
The online service is exclusively available to lawyers and solicitors.
Currently, it only applies to processes for acquiring Portuguese nationality through legal residence for more than five years and those related to acquiring nationality through marriage to a Portuguese citizen.
The service will be extended to all Portuguese nationality processes by March 17, 2023.
This is considered a significant step in streamlining the services of the National Institute of Registry and Notary (IRN).
But is also a crucial measure in combating unauthorized legal representation (you can read more about this issue here).
This approach ends up preventing the execution of legal acts by non-professionals who may not provide a proper response to all legal aspects of such a process.
Obtaining Portuguese nationality involves more than just filling out a form.
Administrative law is a particular area of Portuguese law. A poorly initiated process can make a significant difference, increasing the risk of rejection and the overall processing time until completion.
Moreover, there are many cases of individuals seeking our assistance with the poorly analyzed viability of their cases. They have invested money and time, only to find that the process is not viable, was initiated incorrectly, or lacked sufficient documentation.
In summary, we view this change very positively.
We are excited about the potential impact these changes will have on the lives of various stakeholders, from those interested in the process to the professionals involved.
We will assess the true effectiveness of the measure more thoroughly in a few months.
For now, GSN is already utilizing all the functionalities of the service.
