Lawyers and solicitors can now submit online applications for Portuguese nationality.

The online service is exclusively available to lawyers and solicitors.

Currently, it only applies to processes for acquiring Portuguese nationality through legal residence for more than five years and those related to acquiring nationality through marriage to a Portuguese citizen.

The service will be extended to all Portuguese nationality processes by March 17, 2023.

This is considered a significant step in streamlining the services of the National Institute of Registry and Notary (IRN).

This approach ends up preventing the execution of legal acts by non-professionals who may not provide a proper response to all legal aspects of such a process.
